New Radio Transmitter Arrived

We are rejoicing in the Lord! Our new radio transmitter, tuning unit and many other parts that arrived in Lima on December 31 were released from customs and are now sitting at our radio plant.

It was a big shipment as you can see.

Our customs agent and his wife did a great job. We thank the Lord for him, his hard work and his integrity. His wife was right there by his side helping all the way.

The new transmitter should be powerful enough to cover every block of Lima with a clear signal. It will take a few months to get things installed and get to the point where we can transmit with a higher power (25,000 watts). Our goal is to cover all of Lima and beyond by the end of May. This is a big step forward.

We want to thank all of you for your prayers, interest, and sacrifice in giving. So many have had a part in this gigantic project. With all of our heart, Ruth and I want to express our deep gratitude.

Two More Redeemed by Christ

A little over a week ago we sent out a message asking for our supporters to pray for the salvation of four people and for the spiritual life of one new convert. We are thrilled to report that two of the four people on that prayer list have received Christ as their Savior: Catalina and María Paz. They are grandmother and granddaughter.

You will recall that Alejandro and his step son, Ayrton, were saved not long ago. Elisabet, Alejandro's wife, was saved as a young girl. Alejandro, Ayrton and Elisabet are very active witnesses for Christ. Catalina is Elisabet's mother and María Paz is her niece. Her influence has played a great part in the salvation of Catalina and María Paz.

The joy in this family has increased as one by one, more have come to Christ. They are still praying for others in their family. Jesus brings joy to hearts and unites families.

On the Sunday before Christmas, we gave out some special gifts to the children who came to church. They received a new New Testament Bible, a nice gospel tract with pictures at a child's level, candy, cookies, Bible story coloring books, and crayons.

Just before Christmas we held a "Chocolate Time" at our new church plant where our radio station is located. We served everyone in the community who came a cup of hot chocolate and a piece of fruit cake (a Peruvian custom). This was a very special treat for the people in this area. This church is way out in the country and in a neighborhood that is economically speaking, very humble.

Many children came. It made their day!

This was a special treat for the kids!

Several mothers also joined us.

My son, Jonathan, gave a short gospel message.

The children listened attentively as the Word of God was sown one more time in their little hearts.

During the message, Jonathan gave a candy bar to a little boy as part of his illustration of God's gift to us.

He made one little guy happy!

The week after Christmas, we gave the children a shirt with our radio station stamped on it. This was a great gift for the kids and it also provides good will in our community toward our ministry.

A lady in the U.S. got together with some friends to raise funds to help these children. Their donation provided for all these special gifts for the children. We want to thank all of them for their generosity and sacrifice.

Pray for These People

We would like to ask special prayer for the salvation of four people and one new convert. They have all heard the gospel and three are very interested in obtaining eternal life and a right relationship with God.

Sulay is the niece of Ramón Alemán, who attends our church.

Sulay began attending the Bible studies we have in Ramón's house. She has a lot of questions, is searching and wants to know more about how to be right with God.

Sulay is very sincere. Although she has heard the gospel, she is still trying to figure it all out.

Catalina and Maria Paz Ulloa live in the same house with three of our new converts. Catalina is the grandmother and María Paz is the granddauther.

The lady in the middle and farthest from the camera with a Bible in her hands is Elisabet. She is saved and on fire for Christ. To her right (your left) is her mother, Catalina. On her other side in dark blue is her niece, Maria Paz. Maria Paz is 15 years old and is very interested in studying the Bible and being saved. Her father is not in agreement.

Ruth and I sat down with Catalina and Maria Paz and went over the gospel carefully. God is illuminating their understanding that forgiveness comes by grace through faith and not by human effort or good works.

Betty is also very interested.

In this Bible study, Betty is the lady farthest to the left.

Betty is struggling with repentance. She knows she is not living in accordance with God's Word and would have to make some major changes if she follows Christ. We are encouraging her.

A fifth person to remember in your prayers is Fernando, a young man we mentioned in a previous prayer letter.

He just recently made a profession. About a week later, Fernando began to cool in his desire to learn more. We are very concerned for him and would like for you to pray that he will continue on in his new life in Christ.

Church Plant in Lima

Grace Baptist Church has graciously offered us the use of their building. They have church services only in the morning so this allows us to have our service at night. We give them a small love offering to help with the expenses of electricity, water and maintenance.

The building is small, but is the perfect size for our congregation.

We just about fill up the room by the time the worship service begins. The auditorium can hold a maximum of approximately 80 comfortably.

It is very difficult for me to stay in close contact with those who attend for the following reasons:

1) They live all over the city.

2) More and more people are coming.

3) The radio ministry absorbs a lot of my time. The radio ministry itself is very demanding. Plus it is growing and we are still in the process of upgrading the plant.

We praise the Lord that we have Jorge Huanca who will begin working with us in February. He and his family are already in Lima and attend our church.

We introduced Jorge and his family to the congregation on Sunday, January 8.

Jorge is busy constructing a house for his family. But since they have arrived, our song service is much more dynamic, thanks to Jorge playing the piano.

Edward, our associate pastor, does an excellent job leading the singing.

We still have some room to grow in the building, but it won't be long before we will be needing a larger place. It would be very difficult to go to two services back to back with the small time frame we have. It is thrilling being a part of this ministry.

We are praying for land and a new place to meet. To rent is expensive and is not a permanent solution. Land is extremely expensive and we do not have the funds to consider this option at the moment. So we will see how God leads. He gives us what we need at the time we need it.

Ruth, A True Missionary Wife

From time to time, people ask how Ruth is doing. They ask about her shoulder, her Spanish and how she is adapting to her new life in Peru.

First, her shoulder is fine. She faithfully finished all her therapy, has no more pain from the surgery and has full use of her arm. Thank you so much for praying. We thank the Lord for a good physician and therapist. All Ruth's hard work and faithfulness in exercising paid off.

Each week she has a tutor come to the house to work on her Spanish. Her teacher is Ana Conde.

Ana is a believer and works very well with Ruth.

Ruth has learned a lot more Spanish since arriving in Peru and continues to work hard at it. Learning a second language is a life-long task. I (Stan) still work at it.

Ruth feels at home in Lima and loves working with the children in Lurín.

They are starving for love and Ruth does well loving on them.

She does a fine job leading the singing during the children's hour. She shines when it comes to crafts.

I think Ruth is the craft queen of all children's ministries. It amazes me how she is so creative!

Ruth loves the fellowship time with our missionary colleagues.

My Sweetheart keeps me laughing. She likes to have a good time and keeps the home atmosphere light.

Ruth does a lot of behind the scenes jobs that no one ever notices (except the Lord).

I just want to express my gratitude to the Lord for giving me such a good wife and help mate. Ruth is wonderful!

The Huanca Family Arrives in Lima

Jorge and Dalila Huanca served the Lord in Trujillo, Peru for 16 years. They were very active in both the Seminary and Faith Baptist (the church we began years ago). They have moved to Lima to come and serve with us in the new church plant and radio ministry.

On their first Sunday (January 8), Jorge brought the message for the worship service. He also played the piano for the song service. Wow, what a difference! It adds so much to the song service.

At the end of the service, we introduced the entire family to our congregation.

Then we had a question and answer time so the congregation could ask questions and get to know them better.

Jorge shared how he meet his wife, Dalila and about his ministry in Trujillo.

Dalila gave her testimony and did a very good job responding to the questions.

She is a very cheerful person and will be a great help in ministering to the ladies. Jorge and Dalila make a great team together.

After this time of sharing, two of the ladies in our church presented a bouquet of flowers to Dalila and a single red rose and new white Bible to their daughter, Damaris.

We also gave a gift to their sons, Jonathan and Josué (Joshua).

Two of the young fellows in our church presented a new Bible to each and gave them a hug.

Their three children are fine examples for our young people. It is refreshing to see a family like theirs.

The evening was capped off with a warm greeting as the people went forward to welcome the Huancas.

The addition of Jorge to our ministry staff is an answer to prayer. He begins work in February and his abilities will be help relieve the work load for our associate, Pastor Edward. Please pray that the Lord will supply more workers. We need a good full-time secretary and one more couple to help in the church and radio ministry.

Jonathan and Lorena Templeton Visit Peru

My son, Jonathan, and our daughter by marriage, Lorena, came to Peru to visit us for Christmas. We have had a wonderful time visiting and sightseeing.

Family time together is precious to us.

Jonathan preached at prayer meeting the first service he was here.

It was an honor to introduce him and Lorena to our church family.

But it was a special blessing to introduce Jonathan as our special speaker to teach the Word of God for the evening!

Jonathan and Lorena are raising their support to be missionaries in Spain. Lorena is the daughter of Kent and Belén Albright, who are presently serving our Lord there now. Pray for their support to come in so they can take the gospel to this needy country.

Second Radio Anniversary

Each year in December we celebrate the radio ministry's anniversary with a special event we call a "Marathon". We broadcast live for two days from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.(hince the name "Marathon"). We encourage our listeners to consider supporting the radio ministry through a number of ways: offerings, faith promise, prayer, donations of items that can be sold to other listeners, and giving out fliers to invite others to listen. Our listeners are our best advertising because they share our purpose to learn the Word of God and to reach the lost with the gospel.

We set up a temporary makeshift "studio" at a church that loaned us their building for the event and broadcast right from the very room where all our listens enter.

It was very "live". We have spontaneous interviews with some of our listens.

With tears streaming down their cheeks, many of our listens share how the Word of God is such a blessing to them through the radio ministry.

We do not know the exact number of visitors, but our best guess would be around 300 over the course of the two days.

All day long people kept coming for both days.

Many radio listeners gave donations to sell at the marathon.

These items were sold and the money was given to the radio ministry.

We received a lot of generous donations in clothes, shoes, kitchen and office items, decorations, one laptop, furniture and much more.

We had about 30 volunteers to help us. They helped in transportation, registering visitors, selling donated items, giving away calendars and keepsakes, packing, and many other tasks. Without our volunteer help, we would not be able to wait on the public who come.

Some volunteers brought breakfast, lunch, and refreshments for our volunteers.

Here three of our volunteers took a break to get a bite to eat. One lady brought a pot of soup to offer to those who came.

Edward is my assistant and he does a marvelous job with the radio ministry.

Three pastors helped with the live broadcasting. It is exhausting work and the men did great.

Amazingly, we had a deaf person come to visit us. Her family listens to the Word of God and then shares with her what they learn! She wanted to come and meet us.

The lady on the left was our primary photographer of the event. She is also my Sweetheart and wonderful wife.

Maybe this little guy will be our future preacher of the gospel over the radio airwaves. We are thankful for all God is doing through this ministry.

New Converts Declare Faith in Christ

Five new converts were recently presented to the church congregation declaring their faith in Christ. Two were Pastor Edward Zacarías' children (our associate pastor). He and his wife, Margarita have 3 children. The two youngest are Joel and Joana, who gave testimoney to their faith in our wonderful Lord.

The other three are Fernando Holder, Alejandro Cristóbal and his step son, Ayrton.

Pray for our new converts. They are growing in the Lord. After we presented the new believers to the congregation, people came forward to congratulate them and encourage them in the Lord.

It was a great time together.

Announcement: Radio Marathon

Friday and Saturday, December 16 and 17, will be our radio marathon. This is a yearly event called a marathon because we broadcast live all day long. The purpose is to encourage our listeners to pray for and give to the radio ministry. We give out calendars and stickers. We also supply our listeners with fliers to give out. They give out thousands and are our best advertising.

If you read this message in time, pray for this event. You can also pray for new radio equipment that we have ordered. This equipment is quite expensive and will allow us to cover all of Lima with a strong signal. It is scheduled to arrive on January 2. Our goal is to have it in operation by April.

New Divider Wall at Radio Station Plant

A simple wall was recently put up at the radio station plant to divide our property from the neighbors and mark the boundaries. This structure is made of plastic covered with tar draped over a wooden fence. Very simple and humble, but it works.

We were having some serious problems with the neighbor's dangerous dog. Praise the Lord we have not had problems since the fence was put up.

New Believer in Christ

Fernando Holder had been coming to one of our home Bible studies for several weeks. We had also talked extensively about the Word of God and many other matters on his heart.

I invited him to come to my home to talk about eternal life and salvation. It was Thanksgiving Day and our colleagues from our Mission were coming over to celebrate the special day. When he arrived, Ruth whispered to me: "Why don't you invite him to stay for dinner." So I did. He accepted the invitation and we began talking about the gospel.

At the end of the conversation, Fernando got saved!

It was a great day to remember. After our Thanksgiving meal, we sang hymns and each took a turn to publicly gave thanks to the Lord for different things. When it was Fernando's turn, I had him tell everyone what had just happened to him. He does not speak English so he gave his testimony in Spanish. One more reason to be thankful to the Lord!

This is Fernando Holder, a new creature in Christ.

Please continue to pray for him. He has a thirst to know more about God's Word.

Team of Two from Valley Forge On a Mission

Kevin Nikerle is a very active members in a very active church, Valley Forge Baptist Temple. He recently came to Peru with his church's mission team. Kevin has such a servant heart that immediately after the trip, he wanted to come back to get more done on the caretaker house at the radio plant. So he took his Thanksgiving holidays to come to work free in Peru! He also brought Luis, another man from his church, to be his interpreter.

While they were here they worked fast and really made progress on the closets. This is what they look like now!

This picture does not do them justice. Jorge, our caretaker, is overjoyed.

They also made some desperately needed shelves for storage. This is what Kevin is working on in this picture.

Luis was a great help. I was amazed at how much they got done.

The men are filling the shelves with our tools and supplies. I can't tell you how happy I was to have these shelves.

Wildredo is a friend of many who have come to Peru over the years. Kevin was glad to see him again.

Long time friends get together again. Years ago, Kevin gave Wilfredo the shirt he is wearing. On the day this picture was taken, they both showed up for work with shirts from Boyertown, PA.

One of the best things about missions trips is the friendships you make. The two men in the picture above have a special place in my heart.

Two People Come to Christ

Two families heard our radio broadcast and began attending our services. Ruth and I began holding a Bible study with them.

The topic was how to get eternal life and be saved. Each study lasts about 2 hours.

The Bible study in this picture is at our apartment.

After the third study, one father was saved. It was a Sunday and Alejandro left the house, got into his car and prayed for the Lord to save him. He could not wait until the next Bible study meeting! The next time we met, his step son was saved.

Alejandro is on the far right with the big smile. Sitting next to him is his step son, Ayrton. I have my arm on his shoulder. Both are so thrilled to have new life in Christ.

As we slowly and carefully explained the gospel, we determined that the two wives, Fanny and Elizabeth, were saved before we began the Bible studies. They are as excited to learn more of God's Word as if they had been saved yesterday.

Fanny is the wife and mother of the family sitting on the couch on the your left. She is sitting on the far end of the couch; fourth from the left. Elizabeth is the lady in the middle and in the far background sitting with her Bible open just like she is in the studies. She is Alejandro's wife.

Radio Listener Helps on Website

Zósimo is one of our listeners and offered to help us in any way he could. Recently we met at a coffee shop in the morning for a couple of hours to work on the logo for the radio ministry.

I took this picture at the coffee shop. Zósimo is on the left and our radio manager and my assistant, Edward Zacarías is on the right.

It turned out that Zósimo is very talented and creative with the computer. If you put that together with his dedication to Christ, you have an excellent testimony and resource for God's work. Zósimo is working with a graphic designer on our website to make it more efficient and attractive . They have already produced the logo for the radio ministry. Here is the first look at it.

Zósimo has spent countless hours and used his own resources to help us even though he and his wife are trying to build a house. This young man loves the Lord and wants to use his abilities and preparation for the furtherance of the gospel. He donates his time and uses his own financial resources for all the work he is doing. The Lord allows us to work with some of His finest servants here in Peru.

New Church in Lima

The new church we started in July is located in the area of Surco in Lima. We have services only on Sunday evening because we are using a church and they meet in their own building in the morning.

We start with a class (Sunday School). The worhship service and message follow. We start with about 20 and finally end up with around 70 as people trickle in at all different times. Every Sunday service we have several first time visitors.

We also meet for prayer meeting on Tuesday nights. We have a very good number that come to that service averaging between 20 -30.

We are in the beginning process of knowing our people and seeing if they have been truly regenerated. In order to do this, you have to thoroughly cover the plan of salvation to be able to discern if they believe that good works are necessary for salvation.

Carlota is one of the ladies who attends our church in Surco. She always comes early so Ruth took advantage of the opportunity and snapped this picture.

In the background are Erwin and Clara. They attend our English Bible study that begins at 4:00 p.m.

Carlota prays faithfully for Ruth and me. She loves her pastor. It is an honor to be a pastor and Carlota makes it a joy too! Oh, if you could only know her in person. She is one of the sweetest persons you will ever meet. One day you will get to meet her!

Church at Radio Station Plant

Jesus the Good Shepherd Baptist Church is a new church we began that meets on the radio plant property. Most of those who attend are children and our heart goes out to them as they need the Savior.

We meet each Sunday morning for two hours. This is all the time we have to be able to meet with the people. We are praying for a pastor for this new work.

Daniel is one of the children that attends.

He is one of our best learners. Who knows? Maybe some day he will be the pastor.

Craft time is a favorite for all the children.

Ruth prepares the crafts that go along with the lesson and then guides the children in making their craft while I reach the adults. She puts a lot of effort and time into preparing for this hour.

Ruth also leads the singing for the children's hour. She has an excellent voice and does a great job leading this hour. She feels comfortable leading the children in Spanish.

The children love the actions and movement to the songs. It is our prayer that the message in the songs find their way into the hearts of these children.

The children are now beginning to learn the songs. We are thinking of what Christmas songs we could teach them. Most do not know one single Christmas song or carol.

We only have a few adults who attend our new work.

Do you remember us telling you about Luz, our neighbor who got saved. She is the one in the background with the dark jacket. From the day she received Christ, she has been faithful and has never looked back. Luz is the only one who is saved in her family.

Jorge Huanca Joins Ministry Staff

We are pleased to announce another addition to our ministry team. Jorge Huanca and his wife Dalila will be coming to Lima to serve our Lord with us!

After much prayer and consultation, we extended an invitation to Jorge Huanca to join our ministry here in Lima. After seeking counsel and praying with his wife, they have accepted our invitation.

Jorge's job description is a long one. He knows what he is walking into and it is going to be a challenge. But he will also face many challenges before he even gets here. Jorge and Dalila have been serving the Lord for over 16 years in Trujillo. They will say good-bye to a lot of friends knowing that distance will keep them from enjoying the precious fellowship and closeness they have experienced with the best of God's servants. The move to a big city like Lima presents its challenges.

As they uproot they will change friends, churches, pastors, houses, ministries, streets, school and teachers. The move also calls for a sacrifice on Dalila and their 3 children. Change is never easy. Moving turns your world upside down, so please pray for them as they prepare for the move.

We are absolutely thrilled to have them join us. They bring not only a heart dedicated totally to our Savior, but special gifts that our radio and church ministry need. God willing, they will be with in the first months of the next year; sometime between January and March.

Mountain Shadows Baptist Church Serves the Lord in Peru

Pastor Jim Mitchell and 6 members of Mountain Shadows Baptist in Pueblo West, Colorado came to Peru to serve our wonderful Lord. They served 5 days in the south and 3 days here in Lima.

Groups are such a help in the work and an encouragement to us personally. We love having visitors! Their support on the field has a powerful effect on the missionary!

In all these pictures, Ruth never appears. That is because she took them! My Sweetheart worked hard in the kitchen, out at the plant and doing a lot behind the scenes. On the next to the last day, I wanted to thank her in a special way and get someone in the group to take a picture of us.

I thank the Lord for my lovely wife who does so much that no one ever sees.

If you would like to bring a group to Peru, come on down. It will be a life changing experience.

New Baby Granddaughter

God recently blessed us with a new baby granddaughter. My daughter, Jessica Cheke gave birth to little Chloe Jade on September 29 at 10:10 p.m. Our tiny sweetheart weighed 7 lbs. 14 oz. and was 21" long. Both Jessica and Chloe are doing well.

Ruth Templeton and Pam Kuhlewind - Special Friends

Pam Kuhlewind came down with the Valley Forge Baptist Temple team and worked in the kitchen with Ruth preparing food and ministering in the VBS.

She also was one of the diggers as this picture testifies.

God used her as she showed Christ's love to little children.

But Pam stayed a few days longer to be with Ruth. The two have been friends for years. But not just friends. And not just good friends. It is a special relationship. Not many every reach this level of intimacy with another person.

It was a special pleasure to just sit back and admire how they interacted and encouraged each other. I want Ruth to have good friends in life and you just can't get any better than Pam. It is a Jonathan/David relationship. It is hard to tell who loves the other more!

They ate together, walked together, and prayed together.

Valley Forge Baptist Temple Thrusts Forward Radio Ministry and Church Plant

A group of 24 friends from Valley Forge Baptist Temple came to Lima this past week. They made a two-pronged attack against the enemy that has produced amazing results for the furtherance of the gospel.

One objective was to hold a Vacation Bible School program each afternoon in the rustic tabernacle with a dirt floor at the radio station. Even though school was still going and the older

children were in classes, the VBS was an astounding success in reaching the community for Christ. I think I am correct in saying that the attendance for the final days went beyond 100 children and around 15 - 20 adults. (All the benches that Bill Hulshizer, Cort Hill and Andy Stitzinger made were packed every day.

I do not have any idea how many made decisions for salvation. We did our best not to push the children toward a "decision", wanting to make sure each understood what they were doing. I think a conservative figure would be 10. But one is enough to make it worth it all.

Jackie Wendel was one of the main Bible teachers.

The team worked through interpreters here in Lima. These men and women who served as translators did a great job as well for our Lord.

Nany Buckman was the principal leader of the VBS. God has gifted her with some amazing organizational skills. She can take a VBS program a success anywhere around the world even under primitive circumstances.

The other objective was to concentrate on the radio plant itself. There were 3 projects going on at once. Some worked on the closets in our caretaker's house.

But most of the construction crew labored hard on the upgrades for the radio antenna. They can testify to the "labored hard" part. Most of it was digging.

They also poured some cement to set in place our tuning pole.

Only eternity will reveal the great results from this extremely hard work

The best part of every mission trip for Ruth and me is the testimony time. We love it when all of us gather around and listen to the testimonies of how others came to know Christ. It is a little taste of heaven.

Granddaughter Added to the Templeton Family

The Lord recently added another granddaughter to our family when Amy gave birth to a sweet little girl on August 26.

Her name is Emily.

Emily weighed 7 pounds and was 20 3/4 inches long.

Emily is so precious and we thank the Lord that both she and Amy are doing well.

Ben, Amy and Emily serve the Lord in Quebec, Canada. Ben is a great husband/father and is thrilled to have his little girl.

And we are thrilled to have Ben and Emily in our family.

Calvary Sends Second Group

When they left, the caretaker house was not far enough along for Bro. Jorge (our caretaker) and his family to be able to move in to their new home. Doug and John were so burdened about this, that they wanted to come back to Peru. They not only came back, they brought two other men from Calvary to join them: Ray Chiang and Al Barnabei.

Just before they came, a hurricane hit the east coast of the States and delayed their departure. Then we lost our electricity at the radio plant. The loss of the electricity was just one of the many attacks from Satan on the ministry. It took us off the air for two weeks and left us without power just when a work team was arriving. It also left us vulnerable to theft at night.

We had purchased a new table saw and planer and the men had brought down power tools to finish out the woodwork in the house. With no electricity, the tools were useless. So we rented a generator. But when we connected the generator, our new planer burned out.

These four men worked hard, never complained, and did all they could to help and encourage us in the ministry. Even their flight back home was delayed one day. In spite of all the obstacles, they did enough so that shortly after they left, our caretaker and his family were able to move into their house.

One very big accomplishment was to dig and extend the electrical lines for our power once the electric company got us connected. This was a major victory.

We were not able to accomplish all we hoped, but the encouragement at this time from our sending church was the exact blessing the Lord knew we needed. Maybe the Lord had them come just for such as time as this.

Calvary Baptist Church from Lansdale, PA Labors for Christ In Peru

A team from our sending church and some other churches in the nearby Lansdale, PA area came to Lima 10 days.

During that time they worked at our radio station plant South of Lima. They put in grueling hours of hard work to help us upgrade our tower. We are working on a system that concentrates the radio signal straight toward Lima. This required a lot of digging. They also did a lot of work on the caretaker house. Their work got us closer to the goal of moving in the caretaker's family to live on site.

Pastor Troy Gahman came with the team and taught the Word while he was here.

A special treat was to have a delegation from our sending church present at the opening service of our new church plant in Lima.

There was also come time for fun.

And sight-seeing.

The group got to go out on the Pacific Ocean and see some of the local wildlife and marine animals.

What a blessing they were! A special thanks to all those who sacrificed for them to come and serve the Lord by serving us.

Ruth's Travels

Ruth would like to thank all of you for praying for her safety in travel to the U.S. These last few days have been a wonderful and refreshing time for her. She has visited family, friends and some of our supporting churches.

The main purpose of the trip was to attend the wedding of Karis Kuhlewind (now Taylor). It was a beautiful time that glorified the Lord. We rejoice with them in the joining of their lives together.Curtis Taylor and Karis at their wedding.

Karis is the daughter of Ruth’s close friend, Pam. Karis is like a daughter to Ruth and it was special for her to be there for this event. Ruth with Curtis and Karis at the wedding.

One of the things Ruth has enjoyed is being grandma. She has been baby sitting Bayne, Jessica’s little boy. Ruth having fun with our grandson, Bayne.

Bayne and Ruth took many walks together. We love our grandchildren. We also have two more on the way. Both Jessica and Amy are expecting. Amy is due to have her first in August and Jessica her second in September. We already know that both are little girls. You can be praying for Amy and Jessica and for a safe delivery in the birth.

Ruth returns to Peru on Monday, June 27. If you read this in time, you can be praying for her safe return.

Caretaker House in Progress

One of our biggest priorities at this time is to finish the caretaker house. Here is a picture report on the progress.

This is what it looked like a few weeks ago.

Then the walls went up.

Here the men are putting up the A-frames for the roof.

It is a lot of hard work. John Hagey has been a big help. He is not in the pictures because he is our picture taker.
This is what it looks like now. It lacks all the finish work on the inside such as: plumbing, electrical, ceiling, floor, doors, and windows, etc.

Once it is finished, Jorge and his family will move in. This will give us better security. Recently we have had two theft attempts at night. As far as we can tell, nothing was stolen. We thank the Lord for His protection and for a good guard dog who alerted us in time. But it is important that we beef-up our security for the radio ministry.

A Word about Ruth

Ruth takes Spanish classes three times a week. Each class goes for two hours. This has really helped her comprehension, speaking and reading.

Ruth has also gone back to physical therapy since her right shoulder kept bothering her. Besides the dull pain, she did not have strength in her arm. The therapy immediately helped.

This is one of her exercises.

Each exercise she is designed to work particular muscles that need strengthening. The exercises vary each week. For the most part, they are not difficult, but the most important part is being faithful at it. Some have to be done every two hours.

She makes friends wherever she goes. When I preached at a conference, Ruth made friends with the pastor’s daughter.

This is Ruth with her happy husband. She fills his heart with joy! I am very happy to have Ruth serving by my side and I thank the Lord for all she does in the ministry.

A New Believer in Christ

Do you remember us telling you about Mario and Hilda? Mario heard our broadcast over the radio and contacted us. I visited them in their home and shared the gospel with them. On the night after my fifth visit, Hilda made her decision to accept Christ as her Savior. The transformation in her life has been amazing. She cannot get enough of the Word and wants to do all she can to serve the Lord and help others find Christ! Mario was already a believer and is on fire for the Lord.

As you can see, Hilda’s face radiates with joy. What a change! Jesus makes all the difference.

Construction of Caretaker House

Since the arrival of John Hagey, things have really stepped up on the construction of our caretaker house at the radio plant.

Jorge is our all-around maintenance man and he has worked on the house for a long time without any help.

Recently we hired Heber, a neighbor, to speed things along. This is Heber (on the left) cutting drywall with Jorge. He is a very good worker and a great help. We are witnessing to him and developing a friendship. His two children came one time to our Kid's Club. Sometimes his little boy comes over to the site to play and watch his Daddy work.

This is what the front and side of the house looks like from a higher view. In the background, you can see the tabernacle (church) we built. That structure is now finished and we have services inside.

With three, the job goes a lot faster and easier. These men work long, hard hours.

They are now putting up the roof. We praise the Lord for the progress and want to thank John Hagey for coming to Peru to help us. Pray for Heber and his family to be saved.

Arrival of John Hagey

John Hagey is a young man from our sending church that has come down to Peru to use his summer helping at the radio plant.

He arrived on Tuesday night April 26. With the help of Les Crist, an engineer from our church, John brought down some very valuable radio equipment for us.

During his first week he has helped drain off water from the pumps while the crew was digging the new well. But most of the time he has been helping our caretaker, Jorge. They are building the caretaker house at the radio plant.

Digging a Well at the Radio Plant

We are digging a well by hand at the radio plant for our water supply. The radio station is out in the country and city water does not reach here. A crew of four have been working for about two weeks.
About ten feet down, they struck two rich water veins. Since then, it has been extremely difficult to go much deeper. With three large pumps running non-stop, the level stays high. As fast as they can pump the water out, the well fills again. The water level inside the well has to be very low so the man at the bottom can dig.
The goal is to sink your well deep so you will never lack. In times of drought, the water table can drop and your well could go dry. But it looks like our well is in a spot where two fresh streams run close to each other. It has been hard going, but once the crew is finished, we should have one of the finest wells in the area.

Prayer Requests and Projects You Can Consider

A frequently asked question we receive is: “What are your present needs?” Many want to know how to pray more specifically for us and possibly help our ministry. Here are some needs and projects for the goals we are working toward.

Raise the power of our radio station to reach the other half of the city.
The basic need here is prayer for the upgrades on the tower and funds for a new transmitter. The improvements on the tower take time, patience and wisdom for our engineers.

Start a new church in Lima.
We are considering buying property, renting, or using a loaned facility. Pray for the Lord to provide an excellent location for this new church plant. Location is very important. The long-term need is for finances to purchase a property.

Pray for the Bible study group we have in Miraflores of Lima; that they will remain faithful. Pray for wisdom and direction in finding a place (temporary or permanent) to begin this new work.

Start a new church at the radio plant in Lurín.
This is 25 miles south of Lima. A simple building is up for holding services.

The physical or material needs are:
1. Benches – buying lumber and making steel legs to make benches for seating.
2. Lights – run electrical wiring, installing switches and florescent lights.
3. Front entrance – opening up the front wall, putting up cement columns and installing a front gate (door) to give direct access to the church.
4. Sign – putting up a sign out front to identify our church and its location.
5. Flooring – After the above things are in place, we would work on a floor.
6. Song sheets – tying up and printing off hymns for us to sing. The cost is minimal. It just takes time and careful editing.

The spiritual needs are:
1. Conversions – for people to respond to the gospel message and accept Christ.
2. Contacts to bring more people in to hear God’s Word. As we make contacts, pray for these people to respond positively toward the Lord’s working in their life.
3. Growth in the lives of those who know the Savior. Pray for the core group of believers who need to grow in their love for the Savior, learn sound doctrine and develop a loyalty to worshipping and serving in a local church.

Hold More Bible Conferences.
We want to have more Bible conferences. Radio listeners are invited to come to the conference, but we specifically target pastors. We contact pastors who are of like faith and practice, invite them and offer a discount or cover all the expenses in some cases. We want to increase interest in the Word and provide more materials for leadership and their churches by connecting them to good sources of reliable, quality literature with sound doctrine for their church needs.

The need here is for literature. You might want to consider giving toward the purchase or printing of materials for pastors and their Sunday School teachers. We have a chorus book and some material I have written that is ready to print. Another great help would be more flannelgraph lessons and figures. The Betty Luken’s set is superb and we could use several of these. We can find people who will help in transporting materials to Peru if you are interested in helping on this project.

First Radio Bible Conference

From March 3 – 5 we held our first Radio Bible Conference at a school in central Lima. Radio listeners were invited to come to hear Cornelio Rivera who taught the books of Haggai and Obadiah. The lectures were recorded for our radio programming.

The conference went well, but the attendance was lower than we were hoping. The first night we had 32. The next night there were about 10 more and the final night the attendance was around 50. Our main target was to reach pastors and there were approximately 10 who attended. Over all, it was a very good first-time conference.

Those who came showed high interest in learning the Word. That spirit was refreshing and exciting to see! Those who attended the last day.

On the last night of the conference we gave a complimentary Bible commentary to each attending pastor. Our goal is to fortify pastors and their ministries and teach the Bible to all who will listen. It is exciting beginning this new ministry.

Our missionary colleagues Gary and Penny Whipple offered literature on the last night. The brought commentaries and Sunday School literature for teachers. The goal was to connect our listeners to a good source for quality materials with sound doctrine. Penny Whipple at their Literature Table

Offering literature at the conference was a good idea. We are grateful for the ministry of Gary and Penny Whipple.

During the breaks, we offered refreshments. Here Ruth is serving in the background. She was a great help in this area.

The pastors who attended on the last night received a commentary by Warren Wiersbe on a N. T. book. New Church Building Going Up

In the corner of the radio plant property, we are putting up a new church building. When it is finished we will then work on opening up a hole in the front wall and install a door for people to enter directly from the street.

With property so expensive, we decided to use a corner of our radio plant and start a church in the area. The building is like a poor man’s pole barn. My father calls it a “pole church”. The structure is made of poles as you can see in the picture. Then it is covered with cloth. The final step is the coating of the cloth with tar to protect the covering from sun, rain and wind. We will have a dirt floor. The area is a farming, rural area so the building is not far from the standards of the people. It is a little on the low end, but little by little we will try to better it. The next step is to get some benches and lights. We hope to start services in this structure in early April.

Caretaker House Going Up

Jorge Avila, our caretaker, will live on the radio station property with his family to oversee the plant and help us with all the maintenance. Jorge is a great asset to radio ministry. You can see that the framework of the house is taking shape. Jorge himself is constructing it. Once it is finished, he and his family will move in. Ruth and I take his place as guard at the plant from Saturday noon until Monday morning so he can be in church and be with his family. On these days, we visit the neighbors near the radio plant, build friendships and share the gospel. After Jorge and Rebeca move in, he will join us in starting a new church. Ruth and I will also have greater freedom to leave the property to make visits.

Moving Toward a Recording Studio

Recently we purchased another shipping container for our radio ministry. It is not as high as the other two we have, but was also $1,000 less.

We plan to coat it well with a rust preventive paint and then place it up against another container we already have.

The goal is to use the larger container as our recording studio. The other will serve for storage and living quarters for Ruth and I when we are there evangelizing. It can also be used for guests. The container on the right is our "Hotel Hilton" on Saturdays and Sundays. Ruth never complains about the rustic conditions. And they are rustic.

The long term goal is to have a studio within the city limits of Lima. Our plant is 25 miles south of Lima. We praise the Lord for the progress.

Jonathan and Lorena Templeton

January, 2011 PRAYER LETTER FOLLOWS

Dear Friends in Christ,

It is a thrill to inform you that Jonathan and Lorena Templeton are taking their first steps to be missionaries in Spain. They are applying for approval by Baptist Mid-Missions, being sent out by Living Stone Baptist Church in Quakertown, Pennsylvania, and preparing their deputation presentation.

Lorena is the daughter of Kent and Belen Albright, missionaries in Spain for years. Both Jon and Lorena speak Spanish, were reared on the mission field, feel comfortable living abroad or in the U.S., and know the ministry and church planting firsthand from their childhood. Of course it is different as an adult and being the missionary church planters, but they have many advantages in cross-cultural church planting.

They will experience sweet victories and see firsthand the power of God transform a powerless, beat-down slave of sin into a new and free creature in Christ. To be the instrument God used to make it all happen is like receiving a rush of spiritual adrenalin. Marriages and homes will be salvaged, relationships restored, and churches established and filled with testimonies of God’s grace and power that penetrate into the community and shine like a lighthouse in the pitch dark ocean of sin. To watch a little boy learn God’s Word and one day hear him preach his first sermon as pastor of a new church; to attend the wedding of a beautiful young lady who has grown up in your church and in purity and godliness will bring a lump to your throat and praise to your lips. There is nothing harder than serving Christ; but there is nothing more satisfying. Nothing.

The highest honor on earth is to be an ambassador of Jesus Christ. Ranking not far below is that of having a son and daughter joining the ranks. When I left for the mission field in Peru, South America, my father recalled the words to the hymn, "O Zion Haste". One stanza goes like this:
"Give of thy sons to bear the message glorious
Give of thy wealth to speed them on their way;
Pour out thy soul for them in prayer victorious,
And all thou spendest Jesus will repay."

The words took on new meaning for my father and mother who have lived the song. With tears streaming down their faces, they sent me to a place they had never seen, to speak a language I had never heard and live with people I had never met. It was nearly 26 years ago when I loaded up barrels to be shipped and then flew to a strange, faraway land in the midst of turmoil and terrorism.

I stepped off a plane and was immediately flung into the front lines of spiritual battle on foreign soil. And what a battle it has been. In the spiritual mine field where one wrong step can result in being taken out of action, there have been many painful trials, luring temptations, attractive distractions, and severe opposition. Frustrating defeats, intense fear being pinned down in an intense battle and forced to call in air support, total bewilderment from being injured by friendly fire, embarrassment from giving friendly fire, paralyzing sadness from comrades taken prisoner by the enemy, anger over some that join the foe, and deep sorrow from the loss of those who fought bravely by your side become vivid memories ever burned into the DVD of your soul and mind.

Through all this no one, and I do mean no one, has been more supportive of my ministry, more helpful in my affairs at home, more caring in their love, and more sacrificial in their giving than my own parents. Now it is my turn. As the father of a missionary son, I send him off to a foreign country to do as my own father has done for me. It is a duty, an honor and a privilege both to send and be sent. In a real sense, you are as much in spiritual warfare at “home” as the sender, as you are in another country for there are no boundary lines in spiritual conflict. Pastors probably understand that better than anyone.

Some feel sorry for missionaries. Others look down on them. There are those that even think of being a missionary or pastor as if that is what you do when you can’t make it in the real world. I honestly feel sorry for people who have such poor spiritual values. Some realize the hardship and sacrifices and feel a sense of pity. My friend, never pity a believer for making a sacrifice for Christ. Pity the one who hasn’t.

Just as a father sends his own son, the dearest possession in his soul, into the military to fight danger in faraway places, so I too am overwhelmed with emotions. As I write it is difficult to choke back tears. Knowing how hard it is to fight hand to hand combat in intense spiritual warfare on foreign soil, I have mixed emotions of gratitude and concern: joyful for the decision made, thankful for a life well trained, prayerful for the battles ahead, fearful for the attacks coming, and sobered by the sacred duty that awaits. I lift my heart in soaring praise to God Almighty.

Today I sang out loud the words to “O Zion Haste” and experienced the same emotions my father did. My father, my son and I strive to:
“Publish glad tidings, Tidings of peace,
Tidings of Jesus -- Redemption and release.”

Ruth and I want to be among the first to give an offering for their missionary support. We believe in the gospel with all our hearts and want people in Spain to hear it. New Radio Team Members

As the ministry grows, the need to delegate becomes more critical. When you begin any ministry, you wear a lot of different hats. My associate does the legal work, programming, public relations, most of the banking and coordination with the office help. I do accounting, some banking, guard duty on Saturdays and Sundays, visitation and radio plant development (to raise our power to reach all of Lima). We both do counseling, recording and bill paying. This is just the radio ministry.

We are working hard on finding ways to cut corners, save time, and delegate. Two weeks ago we hired a fine young man to help my associate with the programming. His name is Carl. He helped us for a brief time in the past until his college studies and schedule and got too tight. With the financial results of the marathon, we are hiring him part time. This gives my associate some much needed help.Carl Arrasco is a top notch believer, good at computers and a fast learner.

We are also going to contract out some of our workload to an accountant. He is a godly Christian man who will help us with submitting our financial reports to the government, accounting, and keep us straight on the legal matters in the financial area. This job is a nightmare and it takes a special person to do this important job. Juan Minaya is just the man we need.

This job was being done by our lawyer/account in Trujillo. But with the ministry growing, we need an account closer to us. For the bigger legal matters, we will continue with our lawyer in Trujillo. We praise the Lord for the help of Carl Arrasco y Juan Minaya. What a blessing to have dependable men like them.

Radio Marathon - Promotional Event

The purpose of the marathon (transmitting live for two days) was to motivate people to pray for, give to and promote the radio ministry. We were searching for a place and checking out city parks to hold it outdoors. Then one week before the event, God opened up a door. A Christian school gave us permission to use their facilities. The school became the place where people could take their donated items and buy others (like a yard sale). We had 17 people working there.
Ana and her daughter Stefania were two of the 17 volunteers who helped us.

People could also go our office to pick up fliers, give an offering and receive a calendar and promotional materials (pen, bookmarker, bumper sticker). Jairo, our full time office worker, took phone calls. We also had Margarita, my associate’s wife, answering one phone in their home. My associate (Edward), another pastor and myself were at the plant broadcasting live. We had a third phone with us for listeners to use. That was the number to call and talk to us live over the air.

It is exciting to see the impact of the Word of God over the radio. My heart was filled with joy to see some of the results of this new ministry in infancy. This event will catapult the radio forward. Our listeners are the ones to promote the ministry because they have the same interest we do: to get the Word of God out. They take our fliers and pass them out and invite people to listen to the station. We are humbled at how our listeners pray and give for this ministry. They have a heart for the Word.

Faith promises for the entire year $18,993.57
*The figures given are calculated in dollars although most of the offerings came in soles.

We also received mangos, grapes, apples and an anniversary cake. One listener brought a rabbit and another brought a meal for the workers.
Ruben, a young man who volunteered to help, received offerings. People were generous as they expressed their gratitude to the Lord.

I do not know how many calls we received or visitors. There were so many and we were not prepared to make a count or register our visitors. We even had 12 people come all the way to the plant 25 miles south of Lima to visit us while we were broadcasting live!

Most importantly, the ministry is honoring Christ, changing lives, and becoming known through our listeners.

Radio Marathon

This week (December 12 – 18) we are holding a radio marathon. This is where we make a special effort to make the needs of our radio station known to our listeners and encourage them to give to the ministry. This is held once a year.

Since this is the first time we have held the event, it is totally new to our listeners. We will use the opportunity to present the ministry to the public, build a relationship with our listeners by serving them, and make them aware of our Christian programming.

We have small gifts for those who come to visit us. The gifts are: pens, calendars, fliers with the gospel on printed on the back), and a Bible marker. Each item has “Radio Integrity” printed on it with our station frequency, web address to guide you to our programming over the internet, and our contact information.

Our listeners are our advertizing and they do a great job. This is because their interest is the same as ours: to present Jesus Christ to others and get people to learn the Word!

Please pray for the last two days. Those days are our biggest opportunity. We have already had a good response. This is an exciting ministry.

Two Important Blessings

Official Government Approval
We received government approval and the official document granting us a license to transmit from our new location. This is a great blessing and an answer to prayer. It took a lot of time, hard work and a large investment. God has been good to us in granting us favor with our government authorities.

Now on the Internet
It took us a while to get there, but we are now on the internet. Thanks to the hard work, perseverance and know-how of my associate pastor, all our radio programs can be heard live anywhere around the world where there is internet. All you have to do is log on to: http://www.redradiointegridad.org/. People from Venezuela and the United States have asked us when we would be on internet. We praise the Lord that this service is now available to believers who would never be able to capture our radio signal. They too, can now benefit from the music and messages in Spanish from God’s Word through our ministry. We are thrilled at this amazing tool God has provided.

If you would like to see what the radio ministry sounds like to listeners in Lima, you can log on and hear it for yourself. If you know of anyone who speaks Spanish and would be interested in learning more of God’s Word through this means, feel free to share this resourceful site with them.

At the present, we can have 100 people listen at same time. When we get close to saturating that level, for a fee we can increase our capacity to serve more listeners. So as we grow, we can expand this service as well. We have just started to get the word out and now have an average of 2-3 people listening continually!

We thought you might like to see some pictures of people who were at the wedding. Friends and family came from great distances to show their support for Ben and Amy and celebrate with us. Many of you know and love Steve Fulks and his wife Judy. They are pictured on the left. Steve and Judy served for years in Peru and now serve the Lord in the Home Office of Baptist Mid-Missions (although Steve does extensive traveling). Pray for Judy's health. My parents are pictured on the right. Both are in good health and were able to travel to Pennsylvania for the wedding.

Jesus and Tracy Altuna were also at the wedding. Jesus faithfully served the Lord in our church in Trujillo. Tracy came to Peru many times to serve the Lord. She coached and encouraged Amy through her senior year of High School. Jesus and Tracy are married and have long range plans to return to Peru. This couple has been an incredible blessing to our family. Please pray for Tracy's health. She has severe problems with her back.

Amy's Wedding

On November 6, my daughter Amy was married. It was a beautiful time in the Lord with all the family together once again. We all rejoiced with Ben and Amy as they were united in marriage.

Our new son by marriage is Benoit Guillot. We thank the Lord for Ben. He plans on serving the Lord in his home city in Quebec, Canada. A few days after Ben and Amy were married, they drove to Quebec with a car load of Amy’s things to begin their lives together in Christ. They are now all settled in their new apartment.

Pray for Amy as she adjusts to her life in Quebec. She will need to learn French and was working on the language for quite some time. There will be many adjustments from language to culture to climate. Canada’s weather is very different than Peru´s!

Our family just loves Ben. He is a godly man and an answer to our prayers. We are confident God is going to use them for His glory. The Templeton Tribe at the Wedding

Ruth's Progress

Ruth is very faithful in doing her workouts all throughout the day. Her therapy is demanding, but Ruth does well and it has paid off. She has recovered most of the motion in her right arm and shoulder. Now she has to work on regaining strength in it. The lady in the picture below is Elizabeth, who worked closely with Ruth in therapy.

She really knows her stuff and has done an excellent job. Notice in the picture how high Ruth can raise her arm. Before the surgery, she could barely raise it to her waist. We praise the Lord for His healing.

The Group Near the Radio Plant

We started having church services on Sunday afternoon in the home of Luz. Luz is our first convert who lives across the street from the radio plant. She has stayed firm in her decision to follow Christ and is such a blessing to us. Sadly, her children are not interested in the gospel. We now have a small group that is coming fairly regular now. There are five adults plus Ruth and I.

Ruth and I also have a children’s club on Sunday afternoon. One sweet little girl named Betsaí attends the Bible club faithfully. It is our prayer that we can reach her heart for Jesus. This would be a thrill to lead this little girl to Christ. Ruth and I love her to pieces.

First Steps of Church Planting

Almost every day, we thank the Lord for Jorge Avila. He is the caretaker and all-around handy man for our radio station. The Lord definitely guided us in choosing him. He is an electrician, carpenter, plumber and general repairman. Jorge is such a blessing to us. He has built a workshop at the radio plant.

We have two containers. One houses the computer room and transmission equipment. The other is the tool shed and living quarters for Jorge. On Saturdays and Sundays, I go out to replace Jorge so he can be with his family and attend church. While I am there, I evangelize and visit people in the area as much as I can. I cannot go far because I have to watch our equipment. Before surgery, Ruth came out on Sundays to join me. She will soon be well enough to join me like before.

We have a small group started and every Sunday afternoon, we meet to worship the Lord. We have four who attend with us. Luz, our new convert, offered her house to have services. We also have a children’s club where we teach them the Word of God. Both the children’s club and the service are held in Luz’s house. This is the beginning of a church plant in south of Lima where our radio plant is.

Ruth took this picture on the first day we had a Bible lesson with the children. We had the class on the street. These children now attend our Bible club.

During the week, we hold Bible studies all over the city with radio listeners who do not attend a church. Our plan is to unite the small cell groups and begin services together in Lima. This would be a second church plant. We will see how the two church plants unfold as we progress along.

On the Air 24 / 7

We are now on the air 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This is another big step forward! The Lord’s hand of blessing is upon the radio ministry and we praise Him for all He has done!

Recently He blessed us with new equipment. We were able to purchase a much needed stabilizer. It took three months to build and import it into Peru. Then it took three more weeks to get it hooked up. But it now sits at our radio plant, doing exactly what we hoped and prayed for.

The function of this unit is to keep the electrical current steady. The electricity is horribly unstable in the area where our radio plant is located. At night when everyone in the community uses more electricity, the current drops drastically. Sensitive radio equipment cannot tolerate the drops or fluctuations. This forced us to turn off our equipment and only transmit in the daytime.

Now with the stabilizer, we can leave our transmitter on and keep the Word of God on the air. We have been transmitting non-stop for more than a week and everything is working well. Needless to say, we are thrilled to reach this point! We praise God for providing the wisdom to solve the problem and the resources to cover the need.

At the present, we are transmitting at 5,300 watts and reaching maybe half of the city in the daytime. In the evening, the signal goes further and reaches more people. Our plant is located 25 miles south of Lima proper. This is the capitol city of Peru and one-third of the nation lives in the greater Lima area. Our transmitter is simply not powerful enough to reach the entire city. It is a little more complicated than simply raising our power, but the transmitting power is the main factor.

It is our prayer that we can increase our power and make the other necessary adjustments to cover the entire city. This is one of our goals for the coming year.

Printed Literature

Pastor Todd Grover is the shepherd at Marantha Baptist Church in Hayesville, Ohio. His church recently helped us with printing literature.

This is Pastor Grover in Peru when he visited us.

With the offering they sent us, we printed up 200,000 fliers. We want to thank Pastor Grover and Maranatha Baptist Church for their sacrfice and generosity. We pray that many will come to Christ through this gift.

One side of the fliers announces the radio station. It has the Bible with a speaker mounted inside it and the words “God has something to tell you” written beside it. The station name and frequency also appear at the bottom. It says, “Radio Integrity – The Voice that Glorifies God – 700 AM”. In Spanish it sounds better because the words rhyme (“La Voz que Glorifica a Dios”). On the back of the flier is the gospel along with our contact information.

Our radio listeners are passing out these fliers by the hundreds. The publicity for the station comes from our own listeners who are interested in God’s Word. They are the ones who get the word out. Their interest is not in us as a station per se, but in the gospel and the Word of God.

The goal for our station is to become self supporting in 5 years from the free-will offerings of our listeners. We do not have advertizing spots. All the programming is dedicated to giving out the Word in message and song. While we encourage our listeners to give an offering to the ministry, we discourage tithing to us. We teach listeners to tithe to their local church.

The offerings have increased greatly in the last three months. They now cover the salary of my assistant pastor and part of the salary for our care taker at the radio plant, Bro. Jorge. This has exceeded our expectations at this point in our ministry.

Of course there are many other maintenance costs besides the salaries of workers such as the electric bill, internet, rent, etc. As we grow, we trust God will supply these needs through those who are blessed from the ministry. We have no debts and are moving forward at the pace the Lord allows. God is supplying for His work and we want Him to receive all the glory.

New Office for Radio Ministry

Dr. Medina is an orthodontist who has his offices on the fourth floor of a complex that is centrally located in Lima, Peru. He found our frequency on the radio, began listening and loved the messages and music.

At the same time, another listener, Nelly Rojas, discovered our station too. Nelly contacted us and we began having Bible studies with her. Nelly learned about our need for a small office where we could receive listeners. She spoke to her friend, Dr. Medina, and mentioned the need. He became excited about our ministry, wanted to meet us to see if he could help the radio ministry.

In our first meeting, the Lord put it in the heart of Dr. Medina to offer us the use of one room in his offices along with the two desks, chairs and a book shelf. His motive for doing this is aid the ministry so that people will hear the Word of God on our station. The only charge is for the electricity we use. He also wants to begin a Bible study with us!

The location of his office complex is excellent. Also, by working within his offices it provides safety for our worker and those who visit us. This turned out to be a great answer to our prayers.

We have employed another young man to help us in the office. His name is Jairo Villegas. He greets listeners who visit us, receives their offerings and gives them fliers that announces the radio station and has the gospel on the back.

Jairo knows we do not have the resources to pay him full time. But he is willing to work for us at a lower salary because he wants to do it for the Lord. This job also allows him important study time which he needs as a college student. We are thrilled to have Jairo helping us.

Language Training

Three days a week Ruth has a Spanish class with her professor, Ana Conde. Ana is a believer and comes to the house for the instruction. This is a big help since Ruth is not able to get around real well in public transportation because of her shoulder. Ruth and Ana have been studying together for about two months.

Each class is for two hours. Ruth is working on vocabulary, training her ear to hearing Spanish, and practicing her speech in the language. Ruth minored in Spanish back in college and studied at Rio Grande Bible Institute and Language School in Texas for four months before coming to Peru with me. This training is to help her continue perfecting her communication skills in the language she now uses to give the gospel.

Ruth Has Surgery on Shoulder

Ruth was having trouble with her right shoulder for some time. The pain became so intense that she had difficulty sleeping at night and very limited use of her right arm. I helped her with normal daily activities that required the use of her arm above the waist. We went to the doctor and she was diagnosed with "frozen shoulder". The next step was an MRI. It was discovered that she had a partially detached tendon that needed to be repaired. After reading the results, the doctor recommended surgery. The cause of the damage was continual use over time.

In this picture you will notice how far Ruth could raise her arm just before the surgery.

The arthroscopic surgery took place on Tuesday, September 7. Everything went as planned. A screw was used to help attach the tendon to the bone. Ruth is now recuperating and in a few more days she will begin therapy. The severe pain that traveled up and down her arm is now gone. But she will have to do a lot of hard and painful therapy to get the shoulder in shape.

During this time, Ruth received many phone calls and emails. We thank you so much for all your prayers, love and interest. She was greatly encouraged by your words and prayers. God bless each of you.

New Staff Member Added to Ministry Team

Jorge Avila was recently added to our staff as caretaker of the radio plant. We recently made the decision to hire him full time. What a blessing he is! He is a solid believer that serves Christ will all his heart. He works as hard as he can to make the ministry prosper so more people can hear the gospel. This is a picture of Jorge standing in front of the shipping container that houses our transmitter. Each morning he turns it on at 6:00 a.m. and off at 6:30 p.m. Soon we hope to have a stabilizer in place that will allow us to transmit 24 hours a day. At the present, we cannot transmit in the night because the voltage from the power company is too undependable. This is a picture of Jorge and Stan in front of the work shop he is building. Jorge has it almost finished now.

God sent us Jorge. He is an electrician, plumber, carpenter and an all-around handy man and godly man.

Wedding Anniversary

On August 9, Ruth and I celebrated our second anniversary. We have a wonderful time. First we went to a very nice restaurant on the west side of Lima. It is located on a water break that juts out into the ocean. The scenery was beautiful. We took some pictures and then went shopping. At an outlet store, we purchased a nice comforter for our bedroom.

In the background is a picture of the place where we ate. It is one of the prettiest scenes in Lima.

I snapped this picture of us in front of the restaurant. It will be a day we won’t forget – just like our wedding day.

I thank the Lord for my sweetheart. She is an answer to my prayers. Her companionship and encouragement continually uplift me.

Ruth is doing well in her adjustment to life with me in Peru. A lot of changes were thrown at her and she has graciously met each challenge with God’s grace. Each day, I have observed firsthand, her patience and contentment as a new missionary in a foreign country. Many of you have been praying especially for her. We thank you for your prayers and for the Lord who gives us the grace to serve Him in Lima. We both love it here doing His will.

A New Believer in Christ

About a month and a half ago I led a lady to Christ and later wrote about her in our prayer letter. Her name is Luz and she lives across the street from our radio plant. Luz and her husband, Hector, have three daughters: Judith, Rocio and Maria. They also have one son named Hector and two granddaughters. Since her profession of faith in Christ, she has remained continued to show interest in living for Christ.

I gave a Bible to her son as a birthday gift. This is the only Bible in their house so she uses it. This past Sunday when we had our Bible study together, Ruth realized that she had trouble seeing the Bible to read so she gave her a pair of her own reading glasses. Luz was thrilled. My heart was touched as I witnessed the radiance of joy reflected in the face of Luz and the quiet blessing Ruth received from being the giver and being used of God.

Please continue to pray that Luz will grow in the Lord. I took a picture of her and her daughter (Judith) and Judith’s daughter in the kitchen of their house. Notice the smile on Luz’s face. Jesus is the one who can put a smile on your face, joy in your countenance and peace in your heart!

Pray for their salvation and for the rest of the family. How I wish I would have had a camera to take the picture of Ruth and Luz on the day the glasses were given.

Maranatha Baptist Church Visits Peru

The first week in July we had a mission team of three visit us from Maranatha Baptist Church in Hayesville, Ohio. The team consisted of Pastor Todd Grover, his son Daniel and Abby Carney, a junior in High School.
There here for seven days. In that lapse of time, Pastor Grover spoke four times in three different churches and once in an informal setting to a small group.

They helped us with the underground radial cables digging to find the ends that will be welded together. This will help the grounding of the tower to increase our coverage. Needless to say, it was hard work.

They also gave out a lot of gospel tracts near the radio plant. This helps us in getting to know our neighbors and build friendships.

What a big blessing they were to us! We love having groups.

Missionary Intern

On June 17, Chris Collins, Jr. arrived in Lima to prepare his life for missionary service. Chris is from Suber Road Baptist Church in Greer, SC near Greenville. Mission trips are not new to him. He has been on numerous trips to Peru and Mexico. But this mission is different.
Chris is a senior at Bob Jones University and will be staying with us for about 10 weeks to do his internship. As a gifted musician and already speaks Spanish very well, it will be interesting to see what God will do through his life.

He will be doing extensive traveling in order to get a broad picture of missions in different regions and cultures. This young man has a heart for God and desires to be a missionary in Latin America. Pray that we can be used of the Lord to help Chris in his goals and walk with the Lord.

Amy Engaged

Amy became engaged to Benoit Guillot. Ben proposed to her near the Eiffel Tower in Paris. How romantic is that! We thank the Lord for Ben and now we look forward to their wedding in November and another member added to our family!

Ben is from Quebec, Canada. He recently finished a year of training at Calvary Baptist Seminary in Lansdale, PA. His goal is to start a Bible Institute. Amy is looking forward to serving the Lord by his side.

Family News

In May we visited Deric, Jessica and our new grandson, Bayne who live in Collegeville, Pennsylvania. What a joy it was to hold the little fellow now over three months old! He is so precious. Our prayer is that one day he will receive the Lord as his Savior.

We are enjoying being grandparents.

Next we traveled to Spain for Jonathan’s wedding. I was privileged to bring the message and give the gospel. The church was packed and many who attended were not saved. Jonathan and Lorena’s ceremony provided a great opportunity for the gospel. We thank the Lord for Lorena who is an answer to our prayers. She is a sweet lady who wants to serve the Lord with all her heart and a wonderful wife for Jonathan. Lorena was added to our family and we were added to hers. It was an honor to meet her parents, Kent and Belen Albright who missionaries to Spain. Marriage is really a union of families.

After only three days in Spain, we returned to the U.S. making it in time for a graduation celebration. Kelsey Kuhlewind and her family attend Valley Forge Baptist Temple in Collegeville, PA and are good friends of Ruth. They are more like family. We totally surprised Kelsey by arriving from Spain in time for her graduation celebration. You should have seen the tears of joy. It meant a lot to Kelsey and to us.

Then we headed for Tennessee to see Nathan and Audrey. The next day, Audrey gave birth to little Aurie. What a sweetheart. Only hours old, we both got to hold her! This was a rare privilege for missionaries living in a foreign country. It was a joy to see my son, Nathan in his role as daddy. And to enjoy our role as grandparents! We are praying for Aurie to be saved too.

We praise the Lord that Audrey and little Aurie are doing well.

This is a brief update to let you know how we are coming along with the radio ministry here in Lima.

For weeks a crew of 10 to 12 men worked seven days a week to dismantle our old tower. In its day it was effective, massive and impressive. Twenty years later, it became our obligation to dismantle the monster whose pinnacle reaches almost a football field in height. Given the mission to bring the beast to its knees, it became intimidating, imposing and dangerous. But the crew fulfilled their mission with the Lord’s protection.

The last piece of the old radio tower was taken down on Wednesday (April 21).

This corner support was the last beam to come down!

The next day, (April 22) we sold approximately 13 tons of steel from the tower for 11,500 soles ($4,092).

This is only a portion of the big beast as it lay lifeless on the ground. Praise the Lord we were able to sell the steel quickly at a good price!

As you might expect in our situation here, it was all done by hand and with ropes. No one was hurt, there was minimal damage to other surrounding buildings, and the tower is down and sold. This is a big answer to prayer! We still have some copper wiring and the old electronic flashing light system with the light that sits at the top of the tower. The copper will be easy to sell and we are seeking a buyer for the light. All this helps us to recover from the expenses for the removal of the tower.

After the first tower man abandoned the task, we contracted the job out to a gentleman named Manuel Connoc. Through the long process of taking down a mammoth tower by hand, we became friends. This was the best part of the whole operation! I have great respect for the difficult job this man did. He is also a man of integrity and quiet leadership.

With his extensive knowledge, Manuel has become an incredible help to us with our new tower, giving counsel and supervision free of charge.

We are still working to get the new plant operative so we can get back on the air. I think a safe calculation for reaching this goal is two weeks, but we are yet to see what problems and bugs will have to be worked out and then one last inspection by the government. Once we get on the air, we will owe our engineer / technician about $20,000 (depending on some unknown factors).

Please continue to pray for the project. A lot remains to be done to make it effective for the gospel and church planting. The focus now is getting back on the air with the Word and protect our valuable license.

Some have asked why we had to go off the air. The purchase of the radio station did not include the property on which the station was built. It only included the license and equipment. When we saw it was going to cost more to move the old tower than build a new one, we decided to sell the old one. From the beginning, it was necessary for us to purchase our own property outside the city limits and build a new plant there. Hope this helps you understand the reasons for the move and for going off the air.

God willing, we will soon be writing about more exciting things like people getting saved, lives being transformed and churches being started rather than towers being sold. But this is necessary to get to where the Lord has called us – getting the Word to hearts in Lima. Thank you so much for your prayers.

New Radio Worker

Carlos is a young man who loves the Lord and wants to serve Him. My associate pastor recently began training him to help with the programming of our radio ministry. To do this type of work, you have to love computers. It involves sitting in front of a monitor for hours while you set the computer to run all the messages, announcements, and music at their proper time. Carlos learns quickly and enjoys the work.

He is donating his time to help us and is very happy he can do this for the Lord. Needless to say, we are thrilled to have him join us.

Christmas in Peru

On Christmas Eve, Peruvians gather at the home of one of the family members. It is a time of excitement and joy. Around 11:00 p.m. the family has a big meal that usually includes turkey or a young roasted pig. A fruit cake is also served at the end of the meal for dessert.

Since Peru is largely Catholic, most have a manger scene in the corner of the living room in their home. At midnight, they place a tiny baby figurine they call “baby Jesus” in the manger. While they celebrate the virgin giving birth to Jesus as the Savior of the world, very few actually know the Savior. Salvation is obtained by obeying a set of rules established by the traditional church. It is a work-based attempt to please God in order to obtain forgiveness of sin. Repentance is an emotional and temporary sorrow that is only for the moment since there are no real desires or plans to forsake sin.

The few who do know Christ as their personal Savior by faith through grace are so different from the average person. Their lives are transformed.

We are praying for and working with our landlords so that they can come to the Light and receive salvation by faith. We celebrated the Christmas meal with them in their home. As Blanca put baby Jesus in the manger, we thought of how wonderful it would be if they would invite Him into their hearts.

After this, we went outside to see all the fireworks. Lima was lit up in all directions as beautiful colored lights sprinkled the dark skylight while loud bursts of explosions filled the air. We enjoyed the fireworks display and then retired for the evening at a little before 1:00 a.m. This was Ruth’s first Christmas in Peru.

Praise on the Radio Station Ministry

On December 18, we signed the contract and closed on the purchase of a radio station in Lima. For three years we planned, prepared, saved and prayed for this opportunity so this is a milestone for us.

Within the contract was the agreement that we would be able to use the facilities of the sellers rent free for three months. So on December 19, we began broadcasting at 6:00 a.m. from their studio. The gospel is now being presented (24 hours a day, 7 days a week) through message, song, testimonies, and even the announcements and news! We estimate there are approximately nine million potential listeners.

Our station is called Radio Integrity and is identified as “The Voice that Glorifies God”, which rhymes in Spanish (“La Voz que Glorifica a Dios”). The frequency is 700 on the am dial, which is one the best. It is excellent because it is a low frequency providing greater potential for broader coverage. It is also located precisely in the middle of a small sliver of space between two of the most listened to stations in the city, Radio Programs and Radio Pacific. Listeners frequently skip back and forth between these stations. When they do so, they will find our station providing the perfect opportunity to capture more listeners.

The immediate response to the programs we are broadcasting has been overwhelming even though we are only transmitting with one kilowatt because of the limitations of the present location. We do not have a telephone at the office or even a secretary, but people are finding our borrowed studio to visit us. Believers are excited! And so are we!

Since there are only two of us (my associate and myself) plus our wives, we are a little overwhelmed with the workload of running the station. It takes a good staff to run a radio station well. We have people in mind who are very qualified, but at this time we have an even greater need than the one for personnel.

We need to quickly buy a property and put our new radio plant into operation. This is a major move that will require building a new tower, studio, and transmitting room that must be air-conditioned. The studio can be one room for the moment. We were planning on using the tower that came with this station, but it was more cost efficient to build a new one and sell the steel from the existing one. We have three months from the day we signed to relocate and vacate the site we are using.

So our biggest need at the moment is for finances to make this move possible. The moving costs were not a surprise. We are debt free and have moved at the pace God has supplied. This has been our philosophy and we intend on continuing in the same way, believing this is how God determines direction.

How will we continue? Only God has gotten us to this point and only He will see this project through. It is His ministry. As my father frequently reminds me: “If it is of God, nothing will stop it. If it is not of God, nothing will prosper it.” Well said. As we move forward, our needs continually change according to the progress on the project and the finances God has provided.

November in Trujillo

Sunday, November 8, we boarded a bus bound for Trujillo. Stanley has made this 9 - hour trip many, many times. But for me, it was only my second time. The double-decker bus had a good noon meal and snack later. It showed 4 movies and one of them was “Fireproof!” How great to see that again – even in Spanish! We spent our weeks with Evelyn and Steve Stilwell, veteran missionaries of Peru. What examples, to this rookie, to see the time they spend in counseling, teaching, and entertaining their church members, Seminary students and fellow workers. Plus I learned some more Peruvian culture tips that I need to relate better with these wonderful Latin people. I was able to go to the local Christian school and observe several classes and get more practice speaking Spanish. The kids are always so patient with repeating words or phrases for me to grasp. See, the teacher can always learn from their students! Twice I had the opportunity to share a short devotional/testimony with the girls in the dorms in the evening at the Seminary. That was a stretching time to share publicly in Spanish. It was a blessing to be reminded and share what great things God has done.

The main purpose of making the trip was for Stanley to teach a modular course on pastoral theology at the Seminary. He has taught this class for many years, but it is still a joy to see how the students respond. They ask great questions and request personal time to discuss issues that they face on a daily basis. Yes, all those education classes at Tennessee Temple many years ago still help! But he too spent many hours counseling and discussing with other pastors concerns deep on their hearts. And the itinerant Lima preacher – for these few months – got to preach elsewhere too. His former church, Fe, had him teach a Sunday School class and he preached in two of the chapel services at the Seminary. The time was interrupted with Stanley making a weekend trip back to Lima to investigate potential land for the radio tower. He and Pastor Edward spent all day one Saturday seeking but as of today, there are no definite leads. This is our major prayer concern at time.

Thanksgiving in Peru? It was a first for me. We spent the day here in Trujillo with Steve, Evelyn and Martha Stilwell, David and Kandie Stilwell and their 4 children, Stephen and Molly Stilwell and their 4 children, 2 Arriba college-age girls and a couple who were recently married. The holiday is American and so was all of the food! We enjoyed a song fest in the afternoon. What a wonderful time to share and praise the Lord for another year of His protection, care and guidance.

The three weeks ended with a few Seminary board meetings and then graduation on Saturday. Eight Peruvians were sent out to different areas in Peru and Ecuador to begin serving in local churches. Sunday afternoon Stan and I hopped on the bus back to Lima and our little apartment there to continue the project of getting the radio station, tower and studio off the ground.

What does December hold? Hopefully we want to see the completion of the purchase of the radio license and equipment; finalize the acquisition of land for the tower; renew our efforts with the two families for Bible studies; and prepare for Christmas. Now that is another blog!

The Zacarias Family Joins Our Ministry Team

Edward Zacarías and his family have moved from Trujillo to Lima to help us in our new church plant / radio ministry. Edward and Margarita both graduated from the Seminary in Trujillo, and they have three children: Jair, Joel and Joanna. Edward has worked with Stan for more than fifteen years in two different churches in Trujillo as his associate, and now he will be the administrator of the radio ministry.

Margarita is home schooling the children until the end of this school year (December). Please keep her in your prayers, as this is a big adjustment for her and the entire family. When they made the move to Lima, it was a big sacrifice and step of faith. We are thrilled to have them here with us.

During school days, Ruth takes a bus to their house to help Margarita with the daunting task of educating three children, each in a different grade. Ruth is a big help to Margarita, and the benefit is mutual because it also helps Ruth practice her Spanish. It is exciting working together as a team!

What Are Our Present Needs?

Our biggest need at this time is a property in order to start the new church plant and radio ministry. We found a property located in the middle of the city, in an ideal location and perfect for the needs of this new ministry. Praise the Lord we have received $41,000 in offerings for this property! Pray that the Lord will continue to supply, and that He will reserve this property for us if it is His will.

How Is the Progress Coming Along?

On August 27, we reached a verbal agreement with a company to purchase their radio license and equipment. Our lawyer has been reviewing the documents of the company and working with their lawyer and accountant. This is an important part of the process because we are purchasing a company, making it mandatory that we carefully examine their history.

The major part of the process (reviewing documents) has been done, and things are looking positive. As soon as the company satisfies some legal requirements by our lawyer; we should be proceeding toward the signing of the contract to finalize the deal. God willing, we will reach closing in two to four weeks (late October or early November). Praise the Lord we have all the funds necessary for this purchase. Thank you so much for your prayers and giving.

Property Opportunity for Church Plant / Radio Ministry

The search for a site began over two years ago. My coworker, Edward and I have seen countless properties in Lima. This has helped us gain more insight into the fair market value of property here, analyze our goals and needs and get a better grasp of this massive city.

We have carefully considered the needs for our goals which are:

A site for a new church in a strategic location.

A studio for recording, transmitting to the tower and storage for our library of messages and music.

Offices designed to receiving church visitors and radio listeners.

Housing for the church and radio staff in the beginning stages in order to save on renting expenses.

Housing for groups who come to visit us.

Housing for college interns who come to serve and train with us.

A new law now requires all radio and TV towers be placed outside residential areas. We have struggled with the conflicting needs to be near our church plant and have a tower outside the city limits, and we came to the conclusion that it would be best not to consider a property for the radio studio with the tower in the back. Our two options are now to either share a tower with another station or purchase a small property in a remote area for our tower and beam our signal from the studio to the tower.

Since making that decision, we have focused our search on finding a property that will supply the needs for all our goals excluding a location for the tower.

In the last month, we have found a property that is unquestionably an excellent site for our ministry, and it meets all our criteria (except a site for the tower). The property has 570 square meters and is located in the middle of a nice part of the city. It has an old, rundown three story motel with 20 rooms and space in the back for a church to meet. It needs a lot of work and funds to get it in shape. We can do that as we are able, and there are groups that are waiting to come and help us.

There is available parking (a major factor for a church!) and good access for people to come to visit the church and radio station. It is located precisely in the center of the northern and southern sections of Lima. It is also situated on a main street, but not an avenue with heavy trucks and noisy buses. The property next door will also be coming up for sale in the future, and we will have the option to purchase it if we are interested.

The price is $360,000. The final amount including taxes and closing costs is $375,000. While this may sound ridiculously high, it is being sold as land only and the building is not being considered as an asset. The price is well within what the market dictates for real estate in Lima. Other properties that do not have many of these positive factors are much more expensive.

Our First 100 Days

(June 5 - September 13)

I was recently listening to a pod cast of Nancy Leigh DeMoss. She had a guest that mentioned that she had begun to list all of her struggles and it became overwhelming and not edifying at all. It was a wrong focus. So, my intentions are not to list our woes but Merely share what God has done in our lives these first 100 days in the capital city of Lima.

We arrived Saturday morning, June 5, and went to fellow BMM missionaries Gary and Penny Whipple's home in Chaclacayo, about 25 miles outside of Lima proper. They have been here for over 25 years and have recently completed a new church plant and building in Ate. They call "home" in the States western PA, so we had another special kinship. But they were "blessed" with our presence for not a mere 4 days but almost 4 weeks! Yes, the Lord put us on hold as far as moving to a property that we thought we should have. God had other plans. Yes, it was difficult during those weeks to see how the Lord was leading as far as housing was concerned. Gary and Penny were so gracious to show us around the city and reacquaint Stanley - it's been 24 years since I lived here. We were able to begin a Bible study with a family in Comas, about two hours away on the north side of the city. That study has continued and it is such a blessing to heard their questions and see their interest in spiritual matters. I will say that the 7th Day Adventist have been active here in the city along with the Jehovah's Witnesses.

June 29 we took a bus ride of 9 hours to Trujillo to retrieve some of the furniture and other items needed to setup housekeeping in a two bedroom apartment in La Molina. It was a whirlwind trip and after loading a moving truck, Stanley, Wilfredo and I Hopped into our Pathfinder (car) to make the drive to Lima. About an hour outside of town we noticed that the car was not shifting properly and another hour down the road, we knew that we could not go on. Praise the Lord that we broke down in the town of Chimbote where fellow missionaries, the Steve Stilwell family, live and serve. It was afternoon and they took our car to a mechanic and fed us an awesome Peruvian meal. We had to leave the car and take a bus back to Lima. (That was July 2 - Happy Birthday, Stanley ?!!!!) After arriving early in the morning, we met up with our moving truck at the apartment and the landlords shocked by all of the stuff that we had. Fortunately, we are able to store many things at Fetzer Christian School. Wilfredo was a great blessing in helping us setup the gas stove, washer, dryer, refrigerator, clothes poles, and so much more. What a servant's heart and dear friend to Stan. So we settled into our little nest on the third floor.

Most of July found us going to public Internet places to keep in contact with the folks back in the States, walking to the market, preparing for the Two PA groups coming in August; getting our visas, checking into possible radio stations, and starting another Bible study. Yes, the Lord has given the opportunity to share the salvation of Cornelius (Acts 10) with our landlady. She and her husband (White & Peter) came to Stanley and asked if I would share with them! We still trust the Lord to work in their hearts. We both believe the Lord led us to this apartment for that very reason.

Pastor Edward, Margaret and their three children left Trujillo by bus and went to Chimbote to retrieve our "fixed" car and drive it down to Lima - a normal 6-hour trip. Sad to say, those 6 hours turned into 18 hours. The transmission was not fixed and they could not go over 30 mph, nor in reverse. As of now, the Pathfinder is still awaiting the mechanic to work on it again.
But we are so grateful to have Pastor Edward and his family join us as a new Lima team. Stanley and I are quite the duo and work so well together.

Late in the evening of July 31, Pastor Edward, Stan and I met the group from the Church of the Open Door (Fort Washington, PA) at the airport. They got to sleep in one day but then it was "hit the road running" the rest of their 9 days here. They ministered through VBS programs in 3 different towns. The numbers of children and moms ranged from the 30's up to the 90's. We know of one boy at Manchay who was ready to receive Christ and one of our precious translators had that opportunity to bring him to the Savior. Two of the areas that we held the clubs are new works and it was a blessing to reach out to those communities and Encourage those new works. Thank you India Crew (teens & leaders) for your service to the Lord and people of Peru.

After a day and half of "rest" and preparing for round two, we met the Calvary Baptist group at the airport. This is our sending church from Lansdale, PA and they came to work. I mean work - like with a pick, shovel, mortar, trowel, etc.. Their goal was to help the phrase Horeb Baptist Church with two of their building program. In four short hours of work, this group of mixed ages, from 13 - 70, tore up concrete, put in footers, tore down a brick wall and built two others. It was amazing to see them work so well together. It reminded me of Nehemiah and his crew that worked on the walls of Jerusalem. When we dropped them off at the airport, they were super tired but so pleased with what the Lord allowed them to do.

Let me assure you, we did have some "fun things" planned for both groups. Shopping downtown at the Indian markets was a highlight for guys and girls alike. We also took the Mirabus - an hour long open, double decker bus tour around Miraflores. From there they got to see the beautiful, upper class part of Lima and we drove along the Pacific coast too. One evening we took in the colorful magical fountain / light show. A few of the braver souls chose to get wet on this excursion! It is winter here, so that was a chilling experience. Of course we ate at several of the American fast food places as well as Peruvian restaurants. Praise the Lord, there were only 2 cases of slight sickness among 39 people during these twenty days.

The rest of the month of August found Pastor Edward Stanley and scanning the city and countryside for property on Which to build homes and adequate space to place the radio tower and studio. Praise the Lord with us that we are in the process of purchasing an AM radio station. Stan is holding his breathe until the papers are all signed Because in the past, complications had arisen. So the million dollar radio / church project is half way there. I am being stretch in my faith to see how the Lord provides and will continue too for the property that we will need for the tower and a place for the studio, church, and for the staff to live. In the Midst of this, I had read in John 20:29 as Jesus rebuked Thomas (the Twin), "... blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed." Thank You, Father, for the reminder! As of now, we have a possible site that would fit those needs but .... Time, renovations, and money will keep us seeking God's leading. So many people crowded into this widespread city and the radio can broadcast right into their homes and lives.

Thanks to so many of you - churches, individuals, couples precious, businessmen, widows, children's clubs, and family have given and prayed. You share in this effort and we hold high the responsibility Entrusted to us. These first 100 days have Strengthen our faith in the Lord and Increased our love for the souls of Lima. May I receive all of the glory!

Departure to the Field

We will be departing for Lima, Peru at 2:55 p.m. from Philadelphia on Thursday, June 4 and arriving in Lima the following day at 4:10 a.m. Our first task is to find a place to stay and move our furniture from Trujillo to Lima. Next we need apply for Ruth’s resident visa. The first two months in Peru will bring major changes to our lives. When the Lord brings us to your memory, please pray for us as we adjust, adapt and grow by God’s grace and in His grace.

Answer on Radio Station Offer

Our offer for the purchase of a radio was not accepted. The company has made the decision not to sell the station for less than $600,000. Since God has not supplied this amount, we continue to wait and see what His direction will be for us.

There are three other radio stations that are in danger of losing their license. If the government revokes their license (for not meeting regulations), these would then be offered for sale at a public auction. Only licenses are sold at a government public auction run by the government-remove and not radio equipment. Although it is not possible to predict when a public auction will come up, we are optimistic that one may come up in September. This could be the way the Lord is leading at this time. Please keep this project in your prayers. We want to thank so many of you for praying hard and giving sacrificially toward the radio ministry. We are getting closer to reaching our goal.

Our Offer on a Radio Station in Lima

On March 24, we presented our cash offer of $420,000 to the company who owns the radio station in Lima. Their response was both surprising and puzzling. They did not give us a yes or a no answer. Our interpretation of this is that they have another offer that is much higher than ours, but it is not a cash offer. This means they would have to finance them, which is a high risk in Peru. Although we can only guess, we think they are trying to get the other interested party to raise the amount of their initial down payment. The other party will then have to see what they can do to raise that and also what they can offer as a guarantee for collateral to finance the rest. When that party makes their final offer, the board of the company who owns the station will decide between our cash offer and the higher offer that has to be financed.

In summary, we are still waiting on an answer from the company who owns the station. We know that if the Lord wants us to have this station, He will bring it to pass. If not, He will give us something better. The project is His and we will trust Him to guide in this situation. As soon as we know something, we will let you know.

We thank so many of you who have sacrificed and given to this project and also all who are praying. It will be prayer and the hand of the Lord that will help us get the station. Ruth and I are so grateful for all our prayer warriors.

Latest Developments on Radio Ministry

A Peruvian company is selling their Lima radio station. On March 3, we reached an agreement with the owners. The terms of the agreement are:

Assets:

Includes:

· The authorization license of the frequency

· 6,000 watt transmitter, one small backup transmitter, cable and tower

· All studio equipment (recorders, mixer boards, cables, microphones, computers, software, etc.) Their equipment is in excellent condition and we estimate its net worth to be between $80,000 and 100,000.

Not included:

· Buildings

· Property

Costs:

$600,000 for the radio station

$10,000 for the broker’s commission

Total: $610,000

Time: We have until March 24 to come up with financing.

Terms of agreement: They will sell to us for this price, but reserve the right to accept at any time any other offer that would supersede this amount.

Resources available: At the present time we have $340,000 on hand and $53,000 promised. The needed amount to reach our offer by March 24 is $217,000.

Question: Would you be willing to make a promise to give for this particular project opportunity? We only need to know the amount of the promise. Your promise will be counted as a commitment on your part.

On March 23, we will add up the promises we have received along with the resources we have. If we reach the goal before the deadline, we will submit our offer and move toward closing. If we do not reach our goal, we will submit the amount we have (promises and funds on hand) as our final offer. In this way we will be able to determine if the Lord wants us to purchase this particular radio station.

We are only requesting you send your promise for this particular project opportunity. It is not necessary to send your financial commitment for this particular project at this time. If our offer is accepted and we sign the contract, we would then inform you so you could send it.

If we do not reach our goal to purchase this station, we will continue searching and know that God has something better for us. We will not borrow to finance this project. God will provide where He guides. We are totally confident that this project is His will. We do not know if this frequency is His will.

Please do not feel pressured to give. All of us have a limited amount of resources and there are many worthy places to give. We encourage you to make a commitment promise only if: (1) You believe in the project; (2) God puts it in your heart to give; and (3) You are financially able to do so. We just wanted you to know about this opportunity we have before us and consider it. We do ask you to pray for this project and our ministry.

This project is a marvelous opportunity for the furtherance of the gospel. It is also a major step of faith, as you can see. If we reach our goal, this will allow us to begin getting the message out even though there will be future needs for the project (new transmitter, property and buildings). Biographical Sketch of Stanley and Ruth Templeton

Stan Templeton was born in Centerville, Iowa on July 2, 1954. He grew up on a small farm in Unionville, Missouri where he developed a love for hunting, fishing and the outdoors. It was in this setting that Christ was presented to Stan, his parents and younger brother. Stan came to know Christ at the age of 12 years of age when his father explained to him the gospel.

The family later moved to Winchester, Ohio where his father pastored a church in this small town community. Two years later, Stan went off to Bible college attending Tennessee Temple College where he graduated and later from the Seminary.

Following graduation, he married Marilyn Taylor, who he met during his freshman year in the Temple. God gave Stan and Marilyn four children: Nathan, Jessica, Jonathan and Amy. After finishing Seminary, Stan pastored the church for five years where he grew up as a child in northern Missouri.

Believing that God had called him to be a missionary in Peru to start churches and train national leaders in Peru, Stan and Marilyn moved to Peru, South America. After one year of language training in Lima, they moved to the large city of Trujillo where Stan taught in the Seminary, helped one year in an established church and later founded two others. From the second church, Faith Baptist, two other new works were begun. Faith also began an effective radio ministry with a potential listening audience of over a million people. This ministry has proven to be one of the most influential works in the city.

On October 6, 2003, Stan’s wife went to be with the Lord. Marilyn died suddenly of a heart attack while serving Christ in Peru. Stan continued on to serve in Trujillo until July, 2008. He is now beginning a new ministry in Lima using same strategy he used in Trujillo on a larger scale. This new ministry involves beginning a radio station that will be used to start new churches in the nation’s capitol. Lima is the largest and leading city of the country with approximately 9 million people living in the city’s outer limits.

Born and reared in eastern Pennsylvania, Ruth Sherid came to know Christ at an early age. The conversion of her twin brother motivated Ruth to trust Jesus as her Savior. At the age of 12 she received eternal life and gave her heart to Christ.

Ruth graduated from Bob Jones University with a degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Spanish. Later she obtained her master’s degree at West Chester University. She has taught in two Christian schools in Pennsylvania for over 32 years.

In January of 2007, pastor John Conover and his wife, Janet introduced Stan and Ruth. From this introduction, a new friendship would develop and this would result in the joining of their lives in missionary service. On August 9, 2008, Stan and Ruth were married. They look forward to a new church planting ministry together in Lima.
